The coronavirus outbreak has affected and impacted various business operations and the lives of many people all over the world.
On 13 March 2020 and 20 March 2020, the Ministry of Health (MOH) announced various safe distancing measures to be taken to reduce the risk of local spread of COVID-19, including at workplaces.
One of the control measures implemented is telecommuting and working from home.
Here are some tips for employees to stay productive during their work-from-home experience:
1. Making space for work
Clear and set-up an area for work wherever in your living room or any area where you feel comfortable. Work out with your family members before setting up the working space.
2. Arrange and declutter your work area
Arrange and declutter your work area will enable you to be more focused on your work activities.
For example, reduce background noise by turning off the TV and tune into some smoothing music which is more productive, enabling you to complete your tasks and work within a given timeframe.
3. Get ready for work as usual
Get ready for work is like every usual day when you are going to the office. Do the usual thing like u always do when getting ready to go to work like having your favorite breakfast and your nice aromatic coffee
4. Find your best work position
Look for your best work position so that you have spaces to put your stuffs like your coffee cup, documents and other materials necessary to work your stuff.
The work position will enable you stay productive throughout the day.
5. Turn on the lights
Natural light is great but be careful of the glares reflected on your personal computer which can be distracting and affect your line of sight. Adjust the lighting by bringing down the curtains, drawing the blinds or turning on the lights in the room depending on your preference.
6. Set a home office ambiance
The biggest perk in working from home is having the freedom to create a personalized working area where you can work and have your favorite things around you.
7. Stick to a schedule
Create and stick to a schedule to start working on the routine including your breaks schedules for lunch and other breaks.
This way, you are able to track the time you spend on the specific tasks and will also limit you from spending too much break time.
8. Stretch from time to time
Perform simple stretching exercises to loosen stiffs joints and keep yourself awake. You can try these simple exercises:
Calf rotations
Arm stretching
Waist rotations
Leg lifting
Bum clenches
Stretching helps in circulation as well as prevents you from developing diseases and ailments from prolonged stationary positions.
9. Log off
Remember to log off if you’re working at home! Give yourself a break to recharge your energy to prevent burnout.
Remember, working from home is not be a reason for slacking off work. Maintain your professional integrity despite the current work condition
